Roey Yohai is an award-winning photojournalist who has been shooting all over the world for the last 18 years. Roey met Zoe Papadopoulos while on assignment in Greece — a few days later they went for an all night drive and now 14 years later they are loving parents of two children and proud partners in Yohai Studios. Theirs is an old fashioned love story in modern times, one that inspires how they see the world and the passion they bring to every aspect of their creative partnership.
Born in Israel, and raised in New York City, Roey infuses an international sensibility into every celebration he and his creative team shoot. He developed his photojournalistic style at Rochester Institute of Technology. Roey then went on to work as a photojournalist covering globally relevant events such as the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, the inauguration of President Barak Obama, and practitioners of the Slow Food Movement. He spent a year living in Spain capturing the beauty and brutality of Spanish bull-fighting for a documentary, traveled to Turkey to shoot the juxtaposition between the vivid night life of Istanbul and the troubled existence of Turkish missionaries, and spent time traveling in Cuba, documenting those tiny details of daily Cuban life that offer a small, but revealing window into this fascinating world. He has shot extensively across Israel, in Petra, Jordan, Croatia, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, the Caribbean, Latin America as well as in both India and Japan.
Zoe grew up playing every day in her mother’s atelier in the town of Xanthi- in the North of Greece. She studied Economics and later Fashion Styling at the renowned Central Saint Martins in London. Zoe’s interests in business and design inform everything done at Yohai Studios, where she works closely with the creative team and post production experts, to deliver a final set of products that best capture the spirit, warmth and energy of their special day.
Apart from weddings, Roey and Yohai Studios also photograph galas and events throughout New York. They have shot international political dignitaries, including Presidents, Ministers and Ambassadors in collaboration with the Americas Society/Council of the Americas.
Roey’s work has been featured in numerous publications, including Harper's Bazaar online, Martha Stewart Weddings, Inside Weddings, the Knot, Brides National Edition, and wedding blogs, such as Style Me Pretty, Martha Stewart’s The Bride’s Guide, and Always a Blogsmaid. His work can also be seen on exclusive sites such as Over The Moon, Junebug Weddings, Grey Loves Weddings, and Best of Wedding Photography. His photograph currently graces the cover of the Special Events Brochure for the prestigious New York Public Library. Roey is also a selected member of Inside Weddings Magazine: Editor’s Circle.
Life full of adventure, passion, and love have led Roey and Zoe to this place. “We have chosen the best jobs in the world — the challenges any celebration presents are intriguing, like an elegant puzzle we must piece together, all with a level of trust that is truly inspiring. There are so many whimsical, intimate, and humorous moments being shared at every event - conveying these sentiments, these tender glances, with such creativity, care and honesty is what makes our work so meaningful to us and to our clients.”
Their studio is located upstairs from their home. Literally. It was decided quite purposefully, as their two young boys, their extended family and friends mean the world to them — being able to manage life’s delicate balance is important to who they are and how they want to operate in the world. It also means they can produce exceptional work, stay fresh, and give their very best and never have far to walk for those precious little hugs.
